My career in newspapers has taken me to some interesting places in my life and my career. Its hard to believe that that trip would bring me to the Nation's Newspaper. While I miss the local flavor that you can get working at home town style papers, the time at USA TODAY has given me the opportunity to cover the biggest stories of my career with informational graphics, including working in the middle of Arlington, Virginia on Sept. 11, 2001. While they were still putting out fires at the Pentagon, we were working on graphics for the next day's paper.
The time with USA TODAY has given me the opportunity to further various interests, one of those being the space program. Using my previous experience with three dimensional software, I have created a model of the International Space Station. The work done on this space station and space shuttle graphics has given me the opportunity to view a space shuttle launch and tour the Kennedy Space Center .
Having had won numerous local, regional and national awards for visual journalism, the major one of these being a 1999 National Headliners Award for a full-page graphic on the underground disposal of low-level nuclear waste for The Times of Northwest Indiana.
